Welcome to Wilson Veterinary Hospital! We are a full-service veterinary medical facility, located in Elm City, north of Wilson, NC. The professional and courteous staff at Wilson Veterinary Hospital seeks to provide the best possible medical, surgical, dental, and preventative care for their highly-valued patients.

Meet Our Doctors

James Lupton, DVM

Dr. James Lupton grew up in Wilson, NC. He graduated from Hunt High School in 2003 and NC State University in 2007. He then attended The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine graduating in 2011. Dr. Lupton has a strong interest in soft tissue surgery, orthopedics, and internal medicine.

Dr. Lupton and his wife, Kristin, have a son (Bradley) and a daughter (Natalie). They share their home with three cats (Bart, Cheddar and Digit). He enjoys going to the gym, riding motorcycles and spending time with his brothers.

Carrie Raymond, DVM

Dr. Raymond grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and moved to North Carolina in 1999 to attend North Carolina State Veterinary School. She graduated in 2003 and has been working at Wilson Veterinary Hospital ever since. She handled after-hours emergency cases at Wilson Vet during her first two years and has strong interests in behavior, dentistry and internal medicine.

Dr. Raymond and her husband, John, have 2 children, 1 dog and 1 cat.

Renae Wohlers, DVM

Dr. Wohlers attended undergraduate school at North Carolina State University. She graduated from North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004, joined Wilson Veterinary Hospital after graduation and has been working here ever since. Her strong areas of interest include ultrasound, dermatology, animal behavior and cardiology. She feels fortunate to indulge her love of animals with her chosen profession.

Dr. Wohlers grew up in Minnesota and met her husband, Derek, while serving as a Captain in the Army. They live with two Newfoundland dogs and three rescue cats.

Katherine Leah Holmes, DVM

Dr. Holmes was born and raised in Smithfield, NC. She attended UNC-Wilmington, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry, then moved on to the NC State College of Veterinary medicine, graduating in 2018. Dr. Holmes joined the veterinary team at Wilson Veterinary Hospital in 2023, bringing experience from the previous hospitals she has worked at. Her special interests include anesthesia and surgery, geriatric medicine, and interacting with clients to build lasting relationships.Leah has one dog, Lulu, and two young, spunky kitties, Polly and Bee-Bee. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and spends as much time at the beach as she can!

Whitney Burton, DVM

Dr. Burton spent her younger days in Tennessee but has lived most of her life in northeastern NC. She earned her Animal Science undergraduate degree from NC State University in 2011 and continued on to the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2011. Dr. Burton specialized in swine medicine for 12 years before joining the veterinary team at Wilson Veterinary Hospital in 2023. Her special interests include preventative medicine, behavior and senior pet care.Whitney and her husband, Brian, have 2 daughters, Layla and Maggie. They also have 2 dogs, Sally and Marla, and a cat, Dottie. In her spare time, Whitney enjoys reading, kayaking, pub trivia and beach days!

Andrew Reid, DVM

Dr. Andrew Reid is a graduate of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. His interest in medicine began early in childhood as he spent time with several veterinarians growing up in Eastern North Carolina. After earning his degree in Chemistry from East Carolina University and working with animals at the Brody School of Medicine in the Department of Comparative Medicine, he realized his true love was working in the veterinary field. After graduating from ECU, Dr. Reid returned home and worked as a vet assistant at a local animal clinic until his acceptance in vet school. His special interests in the veterinary field include soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, and preventive medicine.

Dr. Reid currently lives in the Triangle area with his wife Hannah, two dogs (a Heeler named Luke and a Lab named Lando), and three cats (Luna, Neville, Minerva). In his free time, he enjoys watching/attending sporting events and spending time with his wife and animals.
